NPCs make Haddonfield a living objective
Randomized townspeople live inside Haddonfield’s houses, businesses, streets, and public spaces without initially understanding the threat outside. Michael hunts them. Playable Civilians try to reach them first and change what they do.
Resident NPCs make every match about protecting a town, not just surviving a five-player chase. An unaware resident can become an easy target. One who calls police, hides, follows a prepared escort, or takes up a weapon changes the pressure on the map.
Finding and warning residents
Civilians search points of interest for resident NPCs. Reaching a resident does not immediately place that person under player control. A successful conversation is required to persuade them that Michael is present.
Official material confirms three follow-up commands:
- Call police: Add to the town’s official response.
- Hide: Move toward a more secure hiding place.
- Follow: Join the player’s route through Haddonfield.
The right answer depends on light, distance, available weapons, and the team’s planned escape.
Police response
Phones let Civilians and persuaded residents contact the authorities. As evidence and warnings accumulate, local officers can enter the situation.
Police are not a guaranteed instant win. They add resistance, protect escape opportunities, and provide the authority needed for detention. Michael can still attack residents, cut power, disrupt routes, and force the response to spread across the map.
Hiding versus escorting
Telling a resident to hide reduces movement through exposed space, but it also leaves the player with less direct control over that person. Escorting keeps the resident close and can concentrate support, but a large group is noisy and visually obvious.
Choose an escort when the team knows the next interior or exit. Choose hiding when the route is unclear, Michael is nearby, or the group already has more people than it can protect.
NPCs and weapons
Residents can gather weapons as the threat becomes undeniable. An armed NPC may contribute to community resistance or interrupt Michael, but official material does not publish accuracy, weapon priority, or command details for armed residents.
Give the best equipment to the person most able to use it in the current situation. That decision may be a human player defending an escape, an NPC inside an escort, or an authority figure preparing a detention.
Resident escapes
Civilians guide persuaded residents toward randomized escape routes. Starting an escape creates substantial noise and tells Michael where the group is acting.
An escape plan should answer four questions:
- Which residents are already warned?
- Which route is active this match?
- Which key item or interaction is still missing?
- Where will the group stand when Michael responds to the noise?
Saving residents influences the match beyond personal survival. A player who escapes alone may still leave Michael with control of the town.
Special Targets
Michael begins with Special Targets positioned across the map. Eliminating them before their timers expire grants greater rewards.
The official overview does not define a fixed number for every launch match or publish the final scoring weights. Preview builds and HUD readings can inform questions, but they do not establish permanent values.
Authority figures and detention
Responding police, Sheriff’s Deputies, and Dr. Loomis can contribute to the attempt to detain Michael. The group still needs repeated knockdowns, appropriate equipment, and a successful final interaction.
Warnings can lead to police calls, and the responding authorities add the resistance needed for a possible detention attempt.
What is not confirmed
IllFonic has not published a final NPC count per match, complete routine list, escort capacity, conversation timing, or police-response threshold. Those values cannot be confirmed before the release build is available.
Frequently asked questions
Are NPCs only background characters?
No. Resident NPCs are Michael's primary objectives and a central part of the Civilian rescue, police-response, combat, and escape systems.
How many NPCs are in a match?
IllFonic has not published an exact confirmed count per match. Counts inferred from preview HUDs or demos should not be treated as final.
Can NPC residents fight Michael?
Yes. Official material says residents, police, and playable Civilians may gather weapons and resist Michael as evidence and danger increase.
