Halloween: The Game Leaving a Match, XP & Respawns
Earned XP should be retained when you leave as a spectator under the patched behavior. Separate that rule from active quitting, connection failures and other rewards.

Spectator minigames can now be switched off
Patch 1.1.0 adds a Spectator Minigames toggle. With it switched off, Perk Roll progress accumulates passively. Spectating therefore does not always require repeated minigame inputs. This progress is separate from earned XP, Perk Points and eligibility to return as police or Loomis; the update does not promise a reinforcement card or a fixed respawn time.
Can I leave after dying or escaping?
Leaving as a spectator is intended to preserve earned XP. IllFonic’s September 11 Patch 1.0.2 notes explicitly report fixing the bug that awarded no XP when a spectator left. This supports the spectator case after death or escape; it is not a guarantee for every way of disconnecting.
Early-access reports of losing all XP predate that fix. They should not be used on their own to tell every player to wait through the entire remaining match.
| Your situation | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|
| Dead and spectating | The spectator-exit XP fix applies to this state |
| Escaped and spectating | The same state is relevant; use the normal leave option and read its current warning |
| Still alive and abandoning the match | Not established by the spectator-specific fix |
| Crash, connection loss or forced app closure | Recovery and reward handling have not been verified here |
Why is my XP not visible immediately?
Community reports say XP can arrive when the original match ends. An earlier discussion attributes that explanation to IllFonic, but the visible comment is a player’s quotation, not a developer post we could independently authenticate.
Players report that XP can arrive later, but those reports do not establish a guaranteed delivery time. Recheck after the original match could have finished before deciding the reward was lost. The official patch does not specify an exact delay or confirm identical handling for Perk Points, Killer Tokens and every challenge counter.
What do I give up by leaving?
Remaining in the match lets you continue spectator support and leaves open the possibility of returning as a Sheriff’s Deputy or Dr. Loomis. NickNasty’s menu explanation at 20:08–22:24 describes helping teammates through spectator minigames and cards.
Leaving ends your participation in that session: you cannot keep helping from its spectator screen or accept a return opportunity there. A return is not a guaranteed automatic respawn or a fixed countdown. XP already earned and XP from additional actions you could have taken are different things.
XP still missing after the match?
Record the platform, game version, approximate match time, XP before leaving and the state you left from. Also record the value after the original match should have ended. This helps distinguish delayed XP from a reproducible missing reward.
Use the known-issues page for the official reporting contact and related faults. We have not run a controlled account test of every exit scenario, and do not promise that restarting restores missing rewards.
A return card is unavailable: what to record
Returning as Loomis or a Deputy is conditional, not a guaranteed result of staying in spectator mode. In a September 27 Steam thread, the author reports a failed attempt in a two-player private match and later success in public play. Replies disagree on who is eligible; this does not prove that all private matches forbid the return.
Keep the situations separate: was the reinforcement called, did you receive a card, was the card usable, and did the role actually spawn? Also record whether you died or escaped, the match type, and whether Loomis was already present. The 1.0.4 Loomis crash fix concerns performance when he arrives; it does not establish a new card drop rate or fixed respawn order.
The spectator XP fix above also does not cover quitting while still active, losing connection or every delayed result display. A recent video can discuss an older build, so compare its conditions with the dated patch statement before deciding to wait or leave.
